When and How to replace your laptop battery

Your laptop battery is influenced by many factors, including age, environmental conditions and frequency of use. If the your laptop battery (inspiron 1545 batteries, inspiron 1501 batteries, inspiron 1525 batteries) is losing its charge faster than it used to, the battery is probably dying and you will need to replace the laptop battery.

Each laptop battery has a finite number of cycles that it can be charged and discharged. The number of cycles can be anywhere from a low of around 300 to a high of about 1200. However, 500 charging cycles is pretty typical for most standard laptop batteries. Battery performance begins to deteriorate once this maximum number of charge cycles has been reached.

The laptop battery's ability to power the laptop comuter will depend on several factors, most notably the hardware that is installed in the laptop and the number and complexity of the software applications that are being used. Generally speaking, the battery shoulld be able to power the computer for two to three hours before it needs to be recharged. This will translate to a normal bettery lifetime of about 1.5 - 2 years. The following steps are a summary of what needs to be done to replace your laptop battery.

1.Buy a New Battery - Make sure you purchase a replacement that is compatible with your laptop.

3.Undock Laptop - If your laptop is connected to a docking device, you need to unlock it before attempting to replace the battery (dell studio 15 battery, vgp-bps9 battery).
4.Turn Off Laptop - You may not want to lose any files you are working on or risk corruption of software, so it may be better to turn off the laptop.
5.Unplug AC Power/Internet Connection - It is a good practice to disconnect your laptop from the AC outlet, Internet and Telephone before replacing the battery.
6.Flip the Laptop Over - Most laptops have the battery release mechanism on the underside of the laptop. If you are not sure where you should look you can refer to the documentation of the laptop or have Technical support guide you.
7.Unlock and Remove Old Battery - Laptop batteries usually use a two-step locking mechanism, first there are latches that need to be released and then a sliding motion has to be performed to release it completely. Your documentation can be invaluable in this.
8.Position New Battery - Follow the reverse process for fixing the new battery. First slide and then latch the new battery. If the latches get stuck, you may need to adjust the positioning.
9.Charge Battery - Bring laptop to usual position; replace all the cables that you disconnected earlier, including the AC power (inspiron 1525 ac adapter, inspiron 1501 ac adpater, inspiron 6400 ac adapter, studio 15 ac adapter). Charge your battery for the duration specified by the manufacturer before using it.

What to do when Dell Latitude D620 Battery Won

If your computer runs normally on the AC adapter, but the dell latitude d620 battery won't charge, please try the following troubleshooting steps:
1. Check the Laptop Battery and Connections:
A. Remove the dell d620 battery from the system.
B. Look at the connectors in the bay and on the latitude d620 battery for signs of physical damage.
C. Check the dell laptop battery charge by pressing the status button or image on the battery near the LED's.
Note: The lights indicate the current amount of charge on the dell latitude d620 battery. If all the LED's come on when you press the button, the battery is fully charged. If fewer lights are lit, then the battery is partially charged. If any lights flash, or blink, there could be a problem with the battery.

E. Reinsert the battery; push until it locks into place and the latch snaps back to the locked position.
2. Swap Bays or Try A Second Computer:
o Some systems can run with the battery in either bay. Try swapping bays if you have one of these systems.
o If you have access to a second computer like your own, try to charge your battery in that system.
3. Flash the BIOS:
Flashing the BIOS can correct many hardware issues.
4. Run the Recalibration Utility if Your System has One:
This utility runs the notebook battery all the way down and then recharges it completely. The process takes several hours so it is best to run it overnight. Use only the recalibration program specified for your system. Using any other program could void your warranty!

o Inspiron 5000, Inspiron 7000, and Inspiron 7500 systems use this program:
o Latitude LS, Latitude L400, Latitude X200, and Inspiron 2100 enable a recalibration option on the Power page of the BIOS Setup Program:
5. Try to charge a second dell latitude d620 battery like your own if possible.
o If the second dell latitude d620 battery won't charge, the problem may be caused by the charging system in your computer.
