Black Screen on HP Pavilion DV9000?

Black Screen on HP Pavilion DV9000 ?

Hello, just today I have encountered a black screen on my laptop. The screen lights up but nothing will display. Ok, how this all started was this morning when I woke up I noticed once again my screen saver had froze and I had to restart manually. When the laptop restarted I had an error message displayed at the bottom by the clock that said something like the screen saver is not compatible “of course I wasn’t paying much attention so I have forgotten what else it might have said.” I think it might have also said something about “ display driver has stopped working properly” but it said the problem was resolved. So thinking everything was ok I left it alone and the screen saver popped up looking funny and not running right I restarted the computer and this is where I get the black screen and I can see nothing. I have tried hooking my laptop up to a regular monitor and it still doesn't work. Can someone please tell me what might be wrong? I have read that it might be my video card. If it is my video card, how can I find out if I just need a new one or if I have to replace my whole motherboard ?

PS: once again the back light is still working. I can hear the computer start up normally but just can’t see anything.

I have seen this problem with this laptop before. Flip it over, take out the hp pavilion dv9000 battery and unplug the power cable. Then hold down the power button to drain out any extra power that could still be on the motherboard. Put the dv9000 battery back in and plug it in and turn it on. If this isn't the problem, then unfortunately, it is a problem with your motherboard/video card(your video is integrated to your motherboard). You know this because nothing appears on your external monitor.Good luck!
