1) Turn off your digital camera when not in use. If you are in a situation where you must snap pictures quickly, this may not apply as turning digital cameras on and off take a few seconds, and may cause you to miss a picture-taking opportunity. However, if you are taking a leisurely stroll and can afford a couple of seconds before snapping a still subject, by all means, conserve your digital camera's energy!

2) Many digital cameras have a regular viewfinder and an LCD viewfinder. While the digital LCD viewfinder has its benefits, it can drain battery power. Turn it off when applicable and use your regular viewfinder for taking pictures.

3) Don't stop after taking every photo and look at the picture in your digital camera's playback mode. The PowerShot S30 is Canon's compact 3.2-megapixel digital camera based on the PowerShot S40 feature set and housed in a highly durable and pocket sized metal alloy body. The DigicDV processor has the power to control automation, specifically changes in focal points, zoom, and lighting environments in near seamless fashion under well lit conditions.
Overall Manual ControlThe Canon ZR series continue to offer users a significant amount manual control over picture quality. The ZR80 covers nearly all the bases with manual control over focus, exposure, shutter speed and white balance. Missing from the list are gain control, and audio controls. The dial which controls the manual functionsis too small and awkwardly placed to make the most of the ample manual options.
Zoom The Canon ZR80 offers an impressive 18x optical zoom. The optical zoom has been a standout feature in the ZR line for several years. The power of an 18x optical zoom combined with 65 years of lens excellence sets the ZR80 apart from camcorders designed by other manufactures. The zoom is controlled with a redesigned but slightly awkward looking raise toggle switch. The zoom control accurately designates the desired speed of the zoom, unfortunately, it seemed as there were only two zoom speeds.
FocusThe focus control on the ZR80 leaves something to be desired. While the ease of access to engage manual focus is outstanding, the absence of a focus ring is disappointing. A button on the left side of the ZR80 puts the camcorder in manual focus mode, but focal adjustments are made with the depressible jog dial.
Exposure (Aperture)The ZR80 has manual exposure control, AE shift, the feature is activated and controlled in the same fashion as manual focus. There are fifteen steps of exposure displayed in number format in either the LCD or the viewfinder.
Shutter Speed Users can set the shutter speed through the LCD menu on ZR80. The steps of speed escalate incrementally - 1/60, 1/100, 1/250, 1/500, 1/1000, to 1/2000th of a second.
White BalanceAs with most consumer point and shoot camcorders, the ZR80 has the standard white balance settings. Choosing between auto, manual, indoor or outdoor is achieved within the LCD menu.

Bring extra digital camera batteries. A camera that runs out of juice when you're miles from a store or power outlet ranks high on the list of photographic frustrations. If your camera accepts standard AA batteries, pack two sets and, if necessary, a charger. If your camera uses only a proprietary battery, consider buying a second one ( such as replacement np20 battery )to take along. Keep it charged so it's ready should the primary battery give out. The $20 to $50 cost will be well spent if it allows you to snap an unforgettable sunset that you'd otherwise have missed.

Plan photo storage. A full memory card is the digital-camera counterpart to running out of film. Pack the video cable. You can share your photos with friends and family by using your camera's video-output jack to display them on the nearest available TV set. Most cameras even let you set up a slide show, so you can kick back while everyone savors the day's sights.

Consider using photofinishers as you go. If getting home from vacation typically triggers a printing marathon on the home inkjet, consider using in-store photofinishers along the way, thus giving you the option to enjoy and share your shots as you go, typically with an hour or less waiting time. Consider buying a snapshot printer. Problem With Acer Travelmate 2300

Problem:
The problem with my Acer Travelmate: when the travelmate 2300 battery ( lcbtp03003 ) is connected(with or without AC power on), the laptop freezes on the login screen (I use Windows XP Pro SP3).The keys are useless, the mouse or touchpad also, ant every button on the machine is dead - even the power-button!
On AC power only, without the laptop battery connected, the laptop works just fine. When I try to connect the acer travelmate 2300 battery after the OS started, the CPU soon goes at 100% and stops every system.
The machine works fine in Safe Mode, though, with battery... I tried system restore, but it didn't help.
Does anybody have an idea what might be wrong?

Resolution:
There are probably some corrupt files on the harddrive or there is damage on the hard drive. I would suggest to try using the windows setup cd or sony recovery cd to restore the system back to normal, if the problem is not solved by that then you most likely have a hardware problem which is most likely in the harddrive, might have to replace it, they don't cost much.

if you press f8 in start up to get the advanced startup menu, select safe mode.

start in safe mode and login

then

press start -> now run -> type in Cmd -> Type in the shell window -> chkdsk /F /X /R C:
if asked select Y to perform the operation on next start up.

see if the problem is solved.
